Port Adelaide president David Koch has laid down the law for 2017, saying that the Power must make the finals this year.

Port came within a kick of eventual premiers Hawthorn in 2014 before having a couple of years in the wilderness, finishing ninth and 10th in the last two years.

But Kochie has put Port on notice on Adelaide radio, saying that the a finals berth is not negotiable.

"(The expectation is) at least finals. That is the same as every year," Koch said.

"Last year we failed and the year before we failed. Two years of failure in a row – there can't be a third."

Port are facing a difficult start to the season, with finalists Sydney, Adelaide and GWS among their first four opponents.

The Power start their pre-season next Thursday against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
