West Coast premiership forward Liam Ryan is being investigated over an alleged domestic violence in rural Western Australia, according to Gabrielle Knowles in Perth Now.

Police apparently issued Ryan with a 72-hour police order after they were called to an incident outside a motel in Kalbarri early on Sunday morning.

Cops confirmed to Perth Now that they were called to an incident at about 4:20am where they spoke to a 20-year-old woman.

A police order is issued when cops don’t have enough evidence to arrest and charge a person over family violence, but hold concerns for a person’s welfare.

It temporary protection for a person who is being threatened, harassed or intimidated and can issued without needing to get consent from any person.

West Coast issued a statement following the incident becoming public:

The West Coast Eagles are investigating an alleged incident over last weekend in Kalbarri that involved small forward Liam Ryan being issued with a move on notice.

He obeyed the move on notice and it is believed the incident involved a family dispute. The club will be working with Liam to establish the details.

The club will at all times keep the AFL fully informed of all relevant details.

The club remains cognisant of Liam’s health and wellbeing and will work closely with him to ensure those considerations are prioritised. Once the club has established the facts around the allegations it will release further information.

Until then the club will make no further comment.
