Four-time premiership superstar Luke Hodge has admitted feeling apprehensive before his first training session with his new club the Brisbane Lions.

Hodge ended his short-lived retirement from footy in October when the Hawks traded him to the Lions after 305 games across 16 seasons.

The 33-year-old joined in the Lions' first full training session of the pre-season at Yeronga on Monday.

"I was a bit nervous getting here, but footy clubs are the same," Hodge said.

"As long as you get around most of the guys and have a bit of a chat, you fit in pretty easily.”

Hodge felt reinvigorated being surrounded by so many youngsters at the Lions.

"The first thing (I noticed) as we walked out on the track was just how energetic the young guys are,” the two-time Norm Smith Medallist said.

"Where I've come from has been an older group, sometimes you need the young guys to push the vibe of the place and running out there, the atmosphere was great, the excitement of the young guys, being an old fella, is exactly what you need."

Hodge reportedly signed a two-year deal with the Lions which will tie him to the club until the end of 2019 at least.
