Former Hawthorn champ Luke Hodge revealed he got hit with tonsillitis, hindering his final Mad Monday celebrations.

The event didn't take place until Tuesday at Hawthorn, and for Hodge it still wasn't perfect.

"On Mad Monday, the club had meetings and stuff, so we went out for a bit of a feed," he said on the Saturday Rub.

"The next day, the Tuesday, the boys caught up. We met at the old Rising Sun and had a few beers, it was nothing out of the ordinary. I got there at a very similar time as the other boys, and I left about 10 o'clock. 10 pm.

"I got hit down with a bit of tonsillitis after the first two nights and I was no good, the body can't handle it any more."

He brushed off a dig from James Brayshaw for it.

"JB, don't you start, I saw you walking in a moon boot yesterday, what was wrong with you?" he said.

But it didn't cost Hodgey too much, with the club taking a moment to celebrate straight after his last game.

"Yeah, the club said 'what you do wanna do?' and I wasn't that keen on getting changed and going to a pub," he told Triple M.

"I said I'd prefer to sit back in the rooms and enjoy a beer or two with a few of the boys. We sat round there long into the night. I think we ended having a shower, I think it was in the early hours of next morning, and went and caught up with the boys from there.

"That was one of the last things I wanted to do. That was the last time I was going to be able to play with the guys, so sitting back and having a few beers at Etihad was high on the priority."
