Luke Hodge has said he would be surprised if Alastair Clarkson left the Hawks, saying he is "looking for longevity".

The boys on the Friday Huddle grilled Hodge on Hawthorn, including whether, as premiership coach Mark Williams suggested, Clarkson should move on from the club.

Hodge said he couldn't see it happening.

"I don't see that being Clarko," Hodge said on Triple M.

"If he was going to leave, he wouldn't have traded out (Sam) Mitchell or (Jordan) Lewis, because we would be a better team with them at the moment."

Hodge said those trades made in the off-season were made by Clarkson for the future of the football club.

"He was looking at the future of the football club. He was looking at Jaeger O'Meara, Tom Mitchell, all these guys to come in and have an impact with these young guys coming out," he said.

"He's looking at 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 to be better for the football club.

"He's looking for longevity. He's not going to pack up his bags and leave."
