The Western Bulldogs have been hit by injury on the eve of the season with the news Marcus Adams will miss up to three months of action.

Adams was involved in a training mishap on Friday during a match simulation, having his ankle caught in a tackle.

Subsequent scans have revealed a high grade syndesmosis injury.

It is a major blow for a Western Bulldogs backline already missing the services of Dale Morris, who partially tore his anterior cruciate ligament and will miss an extended period.

Adams has had a tough run with injury in recent years, missing the back half of the 2017 season with a foot injury against Sydney in round 12.

The 24-year-old also missed half of 2016 with a foot injury, as well as missing games with finger and ankle problems.

Adams has played 21 games in total for the Bulldogs.
