Mark Ricciuto says he'd be "very surprised" if young gun Jake Lever left Adelaide.

Lever is out of contract, and is becoming increasingly hot property due to his form.

The 21-year-old is averaging 17 disposals, 10 intercept possessions - the most in the competition - and six marks a match this year.

Mark Stevens brought him up on Triple M's preview of Port Adelaide/Hawthorn.

"I want to ask Roo about this one," he said.

"Obviously Lever (is) just an absolute gun. They talk about key position players and defender not being worth as much, but he has got a lot of currency."

Roo said Lever, at the moment, loves being at the Crows.

"What I will say is he loves being at the footy club," he said.

"He's a great leader, a future leader. He hasn't played a lot of footy, he's had a knee reconstruction, but he's been in great form recently."

Roo said he'd be taken aback if the young gun left Adelaide at the end of the year.

"I'd be surprised if Lever left the footy club," he said.

"I'm not saying he won't, but...I'd be very surprised if he left Adelaide."
