Triple M Footy commentator — and Adelaide director — Mark Ricciuto has explained why the Crows gave Rory Sloane a five year deal.

Sloane will be 33 in the final year of the deal, but Roo said that the hard-headed midfielder’s durability and professionalism work in his favour.

“In terms of the five years, that’s his right to ask for what length (of contract) he wants, and the club’s gotta decide how much risk they’re prepared to take,” Roo said.

“Rory Sloane is an absolute professional, he’s a leader, he’s durable — the only injuries he’s really had are his cheek bones and this year his foot, which is an unlucky thing… any long term contract is a risk, whether it’s five years or whether it’s Dusty Martin at seven years.”
