Western Bulldogs veteran Matthew Boyd has rubbished media reports of infighting at the club on the Sunday Rub, labelling it "garbage" and saying the media needs to be held to a higher standard.

"I think you can safely say that we're not playing at the level that we expected to be playing at at this stage of the year," he said on Triple M.

"But the talk about infighting, it's garbage. It's absolute rubbish.

"I think journos just pick up a dart and throw it at a board, and hope it lands somewhere.

"Jay-Z's laughing here!"

Boyd said he wasn't annoyed by it, but said journalists in the game need to be held to a higher standard.

"I'm not frustrated, I'm just bemused by it," he said.

"As I said, footballers are held to high standards and accountability and all that sort of thing, and I think sometimes the journos aren't quite held to the same standard.

"They've got to try and get a story out of there somehow. The players don't really worry about it, to be honest. We just have a laugh about it and move on."
