Port Adelaide defender Matthew Broadbent won't play an AFL game in 2018.

Broadbent has developed a stress fracture in his toe after his second SANFL game of the year on the weekend, with Port Adelaide opting to put him on ice.

He was on the way back from two operations on his ankle.

Port Adelaide’s head of high performance Ian McKeown said the stress fracture was spotted post-match.

“Matthew developed mid foot soreness from the game on the weekend and was found to have a developing stress fracture in his first toe,” he said.

“He will be off his legs for an indefinite period of time to allow the bone to heal before commencing running again, so unfortunately he will not be taking any further part in the season.”

The 27-year-old has played 161 games for the Power.
