The Melbourne Football Club has addressed the media following this morning's shock news of Jesse Hogan's cancer scare.

Speaking to reporters, Melbourne doctor Zeeshan Arain says he expects Hogan to be back in 4-8 weeks.

"It hasn't spread and has been detected very early. In terms of treatment, he'll have surgery and will then be monitored," Arain said.

He also described the cancer as "very curable".

"In fact, as a male if you're going to get a cancer this is the one to get."

Josh Mahoney also gave some insight into the diagnosis, saying Hogan was "in good spirits" and was even keen to play against Adelaide last Saturday.

"Jesse was made aware of his diagnosis last Thursday. He will have surgery today and is expected to make a full recovery," he said.

"Jesse is very positive. He's been through a tough year but what we're seeing is a young 22 year old mature before our eyes."
