Melbourne have suffered a big blow ahead of their blockbuster clash against Geelong on the weekend with star defender Michael Hibberd ruled out due to injury.
Hibberd hurt his quad at training on Wednesday morning and it’s unclear as to how long he will be sidelined for.
“The severity of the injury will be assessed over the coming days,” the club tweeted.
The match at Kardinia Park on Saturday night looms as a crucial one for both teams’ finals hopes.
Melbourne (sixth) and Geelong (eighth) are separated by just one game on the ladder.
A loss for the Cats would almost certainly see them drop out of the top eight with five rounds left in the season.
