Melbourne midfielder Jordan Lewis will not play in the Demons’ final practice match of the pre-season against St Kilda on March 8 due to a calf injury.

Lewis strained the muscle during Melbourne’s win over North Melbourne in Hobart on Saturday.

However, the former Hawk is expected to be fit for the Dees’ season opener against Geelong on March 25.

“Jordan felt some calf tightness in the first quarter of the JLT game down in Kingston on the weekend,” Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said.

“Scans have shown a minor strain and at this stage we won’t take any risks during this period and he won’t play JLT two.

“But we’re confident he’ll be available for round one, as he’s done a full pre-season, has got a lot of confidence in his legs and he’s an experienced player.”

The four-time premiership veteran had a great first season with Melbourne last year, finishing equal third in the club’s best-and-fairest.

The 31-year-old was ranked second for disposals, third for clearances, fifth for marks and fifth for contested possessions at Melbourne in 2017.
