Chris Judd gave Damian Barrett a fright on the way into the Triple M studio for the Friday Huddle tonight, which led to a discussion about another time when Michael Voss had to help Damo when Justin Leppitsch was out for blood.

As luck would have it, Vossy — now midfield coach at Port Adelaide — gave an  interview on the Friday Huddle ahead of Port’s game against Melbourne at Adelaide Oval, and spoke about the incident.

“We were standing next to the plants and all the debris was flying in through the plants, I thought we were pretty safe,” Vossy said.

Damo confirmed the story.

“You did save my life that night and so did Jamie Charman!”

Damo expanded on the story, saying that Leppa apportioned some blame for his sacking as Brisbane coach to him.

“It was the time he’d been moved on as coach of the Brisbane Lions and obviously I’d reported about that, and he felt that I might have contributed to it,” Damo said.

Damo didn’t back down when confronted.

“I might have reminded him that winning 14 games in the three years he was coach probably had more to do with it than what I had to do with it!”
