Heppell Going In "Slow Motion"

Essendon captain Dyson Heppell looks like he’s going in “slow motion” at the moment, according to Triple M Footy’s Nathan Brown.

Browny told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Wednesday that he was worried Heppell was the not the player he was when he earned All-Australian honours as well as a best-and-fairest in 2014.

Since heroically guiding his side to a stirring win against Adelaide in round one, Heppell has struggled with a paltry combined total of 45 disposals in his last two games during losses to Fremantle and the Western Bulldogs. 

“(Essendon’s) problem is through the middle, I think they’re an elite midfielder short,” Browny said during The Midweek Rub.

“He’s only still young but Dyson Heppell needs to be running and carrying the ball, moving it better, kicking it better.

“At the moment he looks like he is going in slow motion. He still accumulates, but I don’t think he damages like he did three years ago.

“I think he needs another couple of elite midfielders around him ... a lot is left to him, (Zach) Merrett is being tagged heavily at the moment so I think Dyson Heppell needs a bit of a chop-out.”
