The Southport Sharks v Aspley NEAFL game at Fankhauser Reserve has been called off after a bad injury to former Collingwood and Fremantle forward Jack Anthony.

Anthony was involved in a collision trying to get the footy and had to be stretchered off the ground with a suspected neck injury.

Due to the massive dump of rain that’s soaked the Gold Coast, the two ambulances that turned up for Anthony could not get on the ground.

An AFL scout who was at the game said that the game was significantly delayed before it was eventually called off.

“Roughly from when he first got hurt until they got him off the ground it was about 15 minutes,” he told Triple M.

“They made the decision to call the game off about four o’clock.”

Southport were leading 7.13.55 to 0.8.8 at the time, and were awarded the points.

The scout said that the weather conditions weren’t to blame for Anthony’s injury.

“It’s just one of those things that happen in footy,” he said.
