Mature aged West Coast draftee Willie Rioli has badly torn his hamstring in the pre-season.

The new Eagle is facing up to three months on the sidelines with the injury which saw him ruled out of a full-scale practice match behind closed doors yesterday.

The 21-year-old small forward will go in for surgery on Tuesday, and will be out of action for 10-12 weeks.

Rioli — cousin of Hawthorn megastar Cyril — caught the eye playing for Glenelg in the SANFL last season, famously winning a match off his own boot at one stage.

He dropped 16 kilos on his way to being taken by the Eagles at pick 52 in November’s draft.

Rioli’s class is set to bring another dimension to West Coast’s forward line this season once he can get on the park.
