West Coast star Nic Naitanui has hit on an interesting new technique in his rehabilitation from an ACL injury, according to the West Australian — lawn bowls.
The 27-year-old has taken to the green at Mount Lawley Bowling Club in inner-northern Perth, which has taken to barefoot bowling, DJs, live bands and cheap drinks to attract the younger crowd.
However Nic Nat isn’t there for the party, finding that the gentle pressure on his knee helps to improve its mobility after the reconstruction surgery.
“In my first session I thought I was OK, and then an older person bowled next to me and made me look silly,” Nic Nat told the West Australian.
It’s not quite as physically tough as footy, though.
“It’s mentally draining more than physically draining,” Naitanui said of lawn bowls.
“You have to be switched on.”
