West Coast star Nic Naitanui will undergo a traditional knee reconstruction after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament for a second time, likely sidelining him for 12 months.

Naitanui tore the ACL in his right knee - his 'good knee' - on the weekend, his second ACL injury in two years.

West Coast confirmed on Tuesday morning Naitanui would undergo another traditional reconstruction.

“After receiving the scans yesterday, the news of Nic’s injury is incredibly disappointing for him and the football club,” West Coast Eagles general manager of football Craig Vozzo said.

“After consulting with our surgeons, it has been decided Nic will undergo a traditional knee reconstruction in the coming days and commence his rehabilitation program as soon as possible.

“Nic is a much-loved member of the playing group and while it is incredibly disappointing news for him, we know his resilience will see him get through this setback.”

Triple M's Damian Barrett believes Nic Naitanui's second ACL injury is "premiership-ending".
