North Melbourne forward Jy Simpkin is going to undergo surgery on his injured shoulder.

The 2017 debutant sustained the injury during the weekend's loss to Sydney and is expected to be out for 6 weeks.

“Unfortunately for Jy, he has injured his AC joint,” Kangaroos doctor Peter Bacquie told NMFC.com.au.

“Jy saw a specialist this morning and it was decided that surgery was the best option to repair the joint.”

Simpkin has played in 6 of North Melbourne's 8 games this year since being taken as pick 12 in the 2016 AFL Draft.
