Alarm bells are ringing for Hawthorn supporters tonight as Jaeger O'Meara was not named in the squad to face West Coast on Sunday.

O'Meara missed last weeks game against Geelong after copping a 'knock to the knee' against his old side Gold Coast the week before.

This was deemed as strictly precautionary from Hawthorn last week and they said he would only miss one week.

Hawthorn General Manager of Football Operations, Jason Burt, spoke to Damien Barrett about the specifics of O'Meara's injury.

“They assured us he’d be ready for Round 5, well he's not, he's out again," Barrett reported on The Footy Show.

“(The injury) may have been more serious than they were saying.

“He trained today, but the knock was significant, (he is) not 100% right, they're waiting another week.

"They're waiting for the functionality in the knee to improve."

After a solid start to the season there is concern the injury may derail another season for the young gun.

O'Meara has missed the past two seasons with a knee injury and there has been criticism towards Hawthorn for paying him big money to cross over from the Gold Coast Suns.
