The AFL has confirmed the list of clubs that have submitted a bid to join the NAB AFL Women's competition in 2019.

They confirmedĀ Essendon, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and West Coast have all applied for a licence.

Along with the pre-existing clubs, it leaves only Sydney and Port Adelaide as teams who have not submitted an adequate bid.

Sydney did approach the AFL with the intent to have an AFLW side in 2019, but the AFL rejected it.

They told the Swans their facilities needed to improve for their bid to come under consideration.

Port Adelaide, however, neglected to bid, instead aiming to focus on women's football in South Australia and creating a team for the local SAWFL competition.
