Patrick Dangerfield has told Triple M both games and seasons are too long, and has suggested both should be shortened.

LISTEN TO DANGER EXPLAIN:

Dangerfield joined Triple M after Geelong's win, where Jay Clark quizzed him on whether seasons or games were too long.

The Geelong champ and AFLPA president agreed.

"I think games are definitely too long," he told the Sunday Rub.

"Fundamentally, 22 games doesn’t make sense. 18 would, because you can play everyone once."

He proposed shortening seasons would open up other opportunities such as more AFLX.

"Whether there’s an opportunity then to increase AFLX, obviously the AFL have been driving that really strongly, I think there’s potential there," he said.

Dangerfield said last night's clash against Port Adelaide was an argument for shortening games, believing they could cause more injuries.

"Certainly last night, there were times where you thought the quarter’s gone long enough, especially with the length of our pre-season," he told Triple M.

"I think there’s an element to the length of our pre-season can affect injuries within teams."
