Patrick Dangerfield has responded after Sam Newman had a crack at the Brownlow Medallist during the Footy Show last night.

It came after Dangerfield labelled Newman ‘irrelevant’ over the comments the 71-year-old had made about Caitlyn Jenner.

It’s fair to say that Newman was far from impressed with Dangerfield…

“I took a bit of a belting from Pat Dangerfield. Now Pat had a crack at me on the radio. Join the queue if you want to have a go at me. I think it stops at Ballarat,” Newman said.

“Pat, please, if you’re going to have a go at me for not understanding the era of political correctness we live in, don’t call me old. I don’t mind if you call me old but that is an ageist comment and it reflects badly on people in the workforce who are my age.

“You said the only person you watch the show for is this woman here (Maddern). That is sexist in itself.

“Let’s be consistent, instead of coming on here like a perfume dwarf and thinking that if you act like a ventriloquist’s dummy, that will cut the mustard here, it won’t.

“If you want to have a go at me or say something to me, come and sit on that desk there and do it to my face.”

Dangerfield was apologetic during a Melbourne radio show this morning.

“I went a bit far last week to be fair,” he said on KIIS FM.

“I let my anger at Sam’s comments spill over into a bit of a tirade about the show, which is off the mark and doesn’t really reflect my views.

“I apologise to The Footy Show because I didn’t mean it to come across the way that it did,” he said on KIIS FM. “But if you are going to have sensationalist comments at times then you’ve got to be prepared for the repercussions of that.”
