Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield has said he will miss a game to be at the birth of his first child.

Patrick and his wife Mardi are expecting their first child in July, with the Cats coming up against the Giants at Spotless Stadium on July 1st.

When asked the question on Fox Footy last night, Dangerfield said he would be there.

“At this stage, yes," he said.

“I would prefer to be there.”

Dangerfield has been checking regularly to see if he will have to miss a game.

“We’ll call the obstetrician before the next few games and just find out where things are at, so we’ll get a bit of a guide from there,” he said.

“Then if it all happens, then [I'lll] miss the game. But hopefully [that doesn’t happen].

The news follows Scott Pendlebury's willingness to miss a game for the birth of his own son Jax.
