Port Adelaide has confirmed Dr Ian McKeown will fill their head of athletic development role that was vacated by Darren Burgess.
Burgess announced his departure midway through the year, joining Arsenal after the end of the footy season.
The Northern Irish-born McKeown, who was brought to the club by Burgess in 2013, will step up to fill the role.
Port Adelaide head of football Chris Davies said the decision was made after a worldwide search.
“[McKeown’s] work experience spans a number of professional sports and he has worked with numerous Olympic-standard athletes around the world,” he told Port Adelaide's website on Thursday.
“The position...attracted an outstanding list of potential candidates from sporting competitions around the globe.
“It was ultimately the work that Ian had done during his time here at the club under Darren Burgess and since Darren has left, that made him the ideal candidate to take our high performance department forward.”
