Port Adelaide defender Logan Austin has requested a trade to St Kilda, according to multiple reports.

The 22-year-old, who is under contract, is reportedly seeking more game time at the Saints.

Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps said on Thursday they were in discussions with Austin's management.

St Kilda has previously expressed their need to pick up a key defender to help support key position duo Jake Carlisle and Nathan Brown.

"We've got Nathan Brown and Jake Carlisle who both played the entire season for us, but it's a little bit thin underneath that," chief operating officer Ameet Bains told AFL Trade Radio.

The Saints missed out on GWS defender Adam Tomlinson earlier in the trade period, whom they offered a five-year deal, and have also spoken to delisted Swan Michael Talia.

Austin has played 13 games, including two this season, after being originally selected with pick 69 in the 2014 AFL draft.

He has struggled to cement his place in the side in the senior side, playing just two games in 2017, with the likes of Tom Jonas, Jack Hombsch, Tom Clurey and Dougal Howard all finding AFL action ahead of him.

It could bring about yet another move for Port Adelaide, who have already brought in Tom Rockliff, Steven Motlop and Jack Watts and let go of Jarman Impey, Jackson Trengove and Brendon Ah Chee this trade period.

Aaron Young and Matthew Lobbe are also on the radar of Gold Coast and Carlton respectively.
