Emerging Port Adelaide key defender Tom Clurey has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

Clurey was due to come out of contract at the end of this season but he will now remain at Alberton until the end of 2019 at least.

After managing just 14 games in his previous four seasons at the Power, the 23-year-old is enjoying a breakout season this year, playing every game and becoming a key part of the team’s backline.

Port Adelaide football manager Chris Davies says the two-year deal is a just reward for Clurey.

“Tom has made himself an important pillar of the club’s defence over the past year,” Davies said.

“He regularly gets the job on the opposition’s biggest forward and has performed really well this season.”

Clurey was originally picked up with selection No.29 in the 2012 national draft.
