Port Adelaide midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper has been rested for this week's clash with Collingwood.

He has been given the week off, after playing all 19 games so far in his debut season.

Coach Ken Hinkley confirmed the news on Friday.

"We probably think it's an opportunity for him to have a bit of a spell in his first season, which has been amazing," he said.

"We'll take that opportunity this week and we'll give him a little rest."

It seems like Powell-Pepper may have been reluctant for a rest, though, according to Hinkley.

"Speaking to him during the week, he said, 'I don't really need a rest, but I'll have it'," he said.

"He'll be back next week, he'll be back in and at it again."
