Port Adelaide recruit Steven Motlop will likely have scans on a calf injury suffered during his debut for his new club.

Motlop was hurt during Port's two-point loss to West Coast in Sunday's pre-season game in Perth.

The extent of the injury remained unknown as Port returned to Adelaide on Monday, assistant coach Michael Voss said.

"We will do the normal medical check as we do," Voss said.

Motlop and his fellow big-name recruits had quiet outings in their first game for the Power.

Motlop collected just eight disposals while Jack Watts (nine disposals, one goal), Lindsay Thomas (four disposals) and Jack Trengove (11 disposals) also failed to fire.

Port's other major signing, ex-Brisbane captain Tom Rockliff, didn't play because of knee soreness.

Voss said the newcomers would improve with the more time they spent playing with their new teammates.

"Those boys are new, they're playing with new teammates and becoming familiar with how we want to move the ball," he said.

"We expect that we're going to continue to build those relationships over the course of the year .

"The advantage we have got with some of those guys though is they are fairly well experienced and they have seen a few game plans before and played with other groups of people.

"So they will adapt pretty quickly."
