Port Adelaide superstar Robbie Gray has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

In a statement, the Power confirmed the 29-year-old has had surgery to remove the tumour and, following the advice of his specialist, will undergo a short course of precautionary chemotherapy.

Port Adelaide doctor Mark Fisher says the treatment is important despite the successful surgery.

“The chemotherapy is a preventative measure to significantly reduce the chance of cancer returning,” he said.

Power football manager Chris Davies said the club would do whatever necessary to support Robbie and his family throughout the treatment and beyond.

“Robbie’s health and wellbeing is, as always, the most important thing to us,” Davies said.

“We are thankful the surgery went as well as it could have.

“The treatment isn’t expected to interfere with Robbie’s ability to begin pre-season training in November.”

Earlier this year, Melbourne key forward Jesse Hogan was also diagnosed with testicular cancer but he made a full and quick recovery and managed to play senior footy again in the second half of 2017.
