Port Adelaide veteran Nathan Krakouer has announced his retirement from AFL football.

Krakouer finishes up with 82 games in eight seasons with the Power and Gold Coast.

The 29-year-old played 69 of his matches with Port Adelaide in two stints.

After playing his first four years with Port Adelaide, he joined the Suns for their inaugural 2011 season which turned out to be his only year at Metricon Stadium.

He then spent three years away from the AFL, before being thrown a lifeline by the Power in the 2015 rookie draft after he showed impressive form in the SANFL.

However, after playing 29 games in 2015 and 2016, he failed to play a senior game this season.

Krakouer’s AFL career has also been dogged by off-field issues, most recently last month when he damaged the windscreen of a taxi.

He detailed his troubles with alcohol, drugs and depression in an interview with The Advertiser earlier this year.
