Premiership-winning Western Bulldog Matthew Boyd is announced his retirement from the game at season's end in a press conference this morning.

The former captain has played 291 games for the Dogs after making his debut in 2003.

Initially overlooked in the draft, Boyd made his way onto the Bulldogs rookie list in the 2001 Rookie Draft via the Frankston Dolphins in the VFL.

Boyd said he knew early on that 2017 would be his last and that he retires with "no regrets".
