Richmond has confirmed Dan Butler will make his AFL debut against Carlton on Thursday.

The news was confirmed by new vice captain Jack Riewoldt, who spoke at Richmond's jumper presentation at Punt Road on Sunday morning.

The 20-year-old was plagued by injury in his first season, but returned to Richmond's VFL side in 2016, playing 15 games and kicking 14 goals.

The small forward will likely join Josh Caddy, Dion Prestia and Toby Nankervis as newcomers to the Richmond side for their round one clash.
