Richmond are confident that Dustin Martin will be able to take his place in the team to play Melbourne tomorrow night at the MCG.

The gun midfielder pulled up with a sore groin after the Tigers’ win away to Brisbane at the Gabba last week.

"We're pretty confident he'll be right for the game ... we've been very happy with how he's progressed thus far," coach Damien Hardwick told reporters.

"We've got Anthony Miles on stand by in case he doesn't come up but we're pretty confident he'll get through the session today."

Richmond trained briefly at Punt Road today, with Martin completing the session and looking ok.

The club is also fearing the worst for youngster Nathan Drummond who appeared to severely injure his knee in the VFL side’s win over Sandringham.

Drummond will undergo scans this week, but Hardwick said it was most likely an anterior cruciate ligament.

"At this stage we don't think it looks good, which is really disappointing for the lad," he said.
