Richmond may not have had the most memorable match in the seniors this weekend, going down to Collingwood by seven points.

But it was a different tale in the reserves, as the VFL Tigers had their first practice hit-out of the season.

The Tigers thumped reigning premiers Footscray by a whopping 92 points, 21.6 (132) to 6.4 (40).

And it came on the back of one big bag from young forward Ben Lennon.

Lennon kicked seven goals, including four in a dominant last term, to put the Bulldogs to the sword.

VFL and development coach Craig McRae said the performances from everyone was a great sign for the season proper, at both levels.

"Today was our first opportunity to test the things that we've been doing in pre-season against opposition," he said.

"A lot of guys played above their level, which is exciting for AFL opportunities".
