Adelaide Crows' All Australian defender Rory Laird joined Triple M Adelaide this afternoon ahead of his sides huge preliminary final with Geelong on Friday night.

The running defender confirmed to Jars and Louie that high-flying forward Mitch McGovern was unlikely to be fit to face the Cats.

"Mitch is still not 100 percent out, but it's looking relatively doubtful," Laird admitted.

If McGovern does miss, he joins Brodie Smith on the sidelines after the gun defender ruptured his ACL in the Crows' win over the Giants that ruled him out for the rest of the finals series and the majority of 2018.

However the Crows' squad depth is strong, and Laird highlighted some potential replacements for the injured pair.

"I'm not sure which exact movements will happen," Laird said.

"We've got a fair few blokes who can come in up forward if Gov does't play.

"Otto (Andy Otten) and Wayne Milera have sort of played that role as well.

"And then down back - last game Dave McKay played a bit down there, and we've got Paul Seedsman who's going through the halfback and the wing.

"So I think we've got the cover there, but it's two massive holes if Gov misses and with Smithers already out."
