Carlton star Sam Docherty believes we're headed for a Geelong/GWS grand final, backing both underdogs to win this week's preliminary finals.

Docherty stopped by Triple M's Rush Hour and was asked to run through his predictions for this weekend's preliminary finals.

He expects two upsets, starting with Geelong - which left Billy Brownless pretty happy.

"I actually think the Cats will get up," he said.

"A couple of my mates are down there, Zach (Tuohy) and Lachie (Henderson), so I hope they get up and get into a granny, (that'd) be good to see. But it's going to be a tough game."

A second upset means Docherty expects GWS should beat Richmond - but that's not what he wants.

"I think GWS will get up," he said.

"But I actually want Richmond to get up, because I can't wait to see what Melbourne will do next week. I think it's more the excitement of what the city's going to produce if Richmond get in the granny."
