Until tonight, Adelaide midfielder Sam Gibson held the record for the active player with the longest streak of games played.

Gibson had played 130 consecutive games before being delisted by North Melbourne, but the streak staying alive stayed a possibility after he was picked up in the Crows in the off-season.

It looked a certainty to continue when he was picked in the 22 for tonight’s game against Essendon at Etihad, but Gibson’s hamstring soreness meant the Crows had to make a late change.

Gibson has had to come out of the side for Hugh Greenwood.

The mantle of most consecutive games for an active player now transfers to ex-Blue and current Cat Zach Tuohy, who has played 115 games straight.
