West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui will miss the rest of 2018 and likely a sizeable chunk of 2019 after scans confirmed that he has ruptured his right anterior cruciate ligament and will need a knee reconstruction.

Triple M Footy’s Adrian Barich confirmed the news on Mix 94.5 FM in Perth today.

Naitanui was trying to impact a marking contest in the second quarter when he landed awkwardly on his right knee.

The impact appeared innocuous but Naitanui limped off and could take no further part.

The Eagles’ worst fears were confirmed with the diagnosis of an ACL rupture this evening.

It will be Naitanui’s second knee reconstruction after he tore the ACL in his left leg in round 22 of the 2016 season against Hawthorn.

Naitanui had only returned from that injury at the start of this year.
