Pendlebury To Break Into Top Three

Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury is set to reach outright third spot on the Magpies’ all-time games list next season.

Pendlebury is already equal third on 277 games with former great Wayne Richardson, so just needs one more game to relegate Richardson to fourth.

The Magpies captain is also a chance of becoming just the third player to reach 300 games for Collingwood in 2019.

Pendlebury will need to play 23 games next season to achieve the milestone which means he would not only need a relatively injury-free year but also for the Magpies to reach the finals, which should be a good chance of happening given how close they came to a premiership this year.

However, the 30-year-old’s durability suggests he is a good chance of playing his 300th game next season given he has only failed to play a minimum of 20 games in a season on just two occasions – 2006 and 2017. He has played at least 23 games in a year six times.

This year the five-time All-Australian played 25 of 26 games and finished third in the club’s best-and-fairest award to cap off one of his best seasons to date.

But if he falls short of the 300-game milestone in 2019, he'll almost certainly reach it in 2020.

Tony Shaw (313) and Gordon Coventry (306) are the only two players to reach 300 games for Collingwood.
