Retired ruckman Shane Mumford is considering a comeback with GWS, according to Sam Edmund and Mick Warner in the Herald Sun.

Mumford, who played for Geelong and Sydney as well as the Giants, was forced to retire due to a foot injury he copped during last year’s finals.

Apparently he has told friends and family that he has recovered from that injury, and GWS may be in need of a ruckman if Rory Lobb leaves for Western Australia.

“No formal discussions have been held with GWS, but if Shane feels that he can play again he’ll consider it as an option,” Mumford’s agent, Anthony McConville, told the Herald Sun.

Mumford has stayed in shape and is a registered pro boxer — he’ll be fighting in Sydney on November 17 promoted as Shane “Sausage” Mumford.

Mumford played 172 games in the AFL after being picked up by the Cats in the 2007 rookie draft.

He had been playing for Bunyip — where his sausage consumption was legendary — and dropped 20 kilos to become a gun ruckman.

Mumford won a flag with Sydney in 2012, and has served as the Giants’ part-time ruck coach since retiring.

Nick Riewoldt has opened up about nearly joining Collingwood.
