Shane Warne expressed his disappointment with St Kilda's performance last week, saying they need a top quality midfielder to improve their side.

He joined the boys on the Friday Huddle and had the chance to review his Saints.

"I love what the Saints are doing, I love what Richo is doing, but I was a little bit disappointed on the weekend that in such a big game that they performed the way they did in that first quarter and a bit," he said.

"After that they were pretty good, but I thought that first quarter, I was hoping for a bit more."

Warnie said the Saints need a high-quality, match-winning midfielder to top off their side.

"When you look through all the good sides that are playing, you say, well, how many match winners have they got?" he asked.

"Who can you throw up forward or who can make a change with that can actually make a huge difference (and) grab the game by the scruff of the neck?

"If you look at the Saints, who are those guys that are absolutely A+ players right now that could change a game? You guys are the experts, not me, but...they need a couple of class players, they need a bit of pace through the midfield.

"Hopefully big Paddy McCartin will be good next year, he has a great pre-season, line up forward and help Membrey and Bruce up forward, and they'll be okay."

Chris Judd agreed.

"They don't have a midfield star, I don't reckon, that you can wheel out and compare to a (Patrick) Dangerfield or a (Joel) Selwood or those types of players," he said.

"Seb Ross and Jack Steven, I reckon they're really good players, but they're just still a rung below your A-grader midfielders."
