Giant Stephen Coniglio will miss 10 weeks with an ankle injury sustained in the three-point win over Collingwood on Saturday.
The club say that Coniglio suffered a syndesmosis injury in the fourth quarter at Spotless Stadium and will undergo surgery on Monday afternoon.
“It’s always disappointing to lose a player for an extended period of time, but especially one of the calibre of Stephen who’s already had an interrupted start to the season," GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce told the club's website.
“The damage to Stephen’s ankle is significantly worse than the previous injury so he’ll undergo surgery before commencing a thorough rehabilitation program.
“We have no doubt that Stephen will attack his rehabilitation with the same diligence he does all areas of his football and will return to the field in peak condition later in the season.”
