Steve Johnson has named Gary Ablett as "by far the best player" he's seen play the game.

Stevie J was asked during his retirement presser on Thursday to re-rank the 2001 draft and say who we would have taken with the number one selection.

He was a part of that draft, along with Luke Hodge, Chris Judd, Gary Ablett, Dane Swan and plenty of other greats.

So he saw the opportunity to heap some praise on the Little Master.

"(I would have taken) probably Hodge or Judd, (only) because Ablett was off limits being a father-son," he smiled.

"Gary Ablett’s by far the best player I’ve ever seen play."

"If he wasn’t a father-son, I would have chosen him."
