Geelong pair Cory Gregson and Josh Cowan are both unlikely to play again this year after undergoing surgery.

Gregson has had his foot operated on again while Cowan has had a procedure done on his Achilles.

A navicular stress fracture has kept Gregson sidelined since Round 14 last year. It has failed to heal properly so he has gone under the knife again.

The speedster won’t be able to run for another 12 weeks while Cowan is expected to miss 10-12 weeks.

"Obviously this is disappointing for the players and our team," Geelong football manager Steve Hocking said.

"Both procedures will allow the players to move forward with the club’s medical team on a rehabilitation plan.”

Achilles and hamstring issues have restricted Cowan to just 16 games in eight seasons.
