Sydney has confirmed one of the most remarkable stories of the season: Alex Johnson will play his first AFL game in nearly six years.

The Swans confirmed the 26-year-old, who hasn't played a game since the 2012 grand final win over Hawthorn, will return on Saturday night against Collingwood.

Johnson has undergone five knee reconstructions since his last game.

He returned for his first game in the NEAFL last July, and after seven consecutive games in the reserves the Swans have picked him.

Johnson racked up 22 disposals last week in the NEAFL.
