Sydney superstar Lance Franklin will be free to play against Brisbane at the Gabba this weekend after being cleared by match review officer Michael Christian.

Franklin found himself in hot water on Saturday night when an errant elbow clipped Fremantle defender Joel Hamling in the face.

Hamling subsequently failed a concussion test and couldn’t take any further part in the game.

But Christian said that Franklin was seeking to evade the Hamling tackle and his actions while in possession of the ball were not unreasonable in the circumstances.

Meanwhile, Port Adelaide's Sam Powell-Pepper, St Kilda's David Armitage, Melbourne's Bernie Vince and Richmond's Shane Edwards were all cleared of contact with Gold Coast’s Lachie Weller, Collingwood’s Taylor Adams, Carlton’s Dale Thomas and West Coast’s Jack Redden respectively.

Elsewhere, GWS youngster Jacob Hopper can accept two separate sanctions of $1000 for twice making careless contact with an umpire. Fremantle’s Darcy Tucker has also been offered a $1000 fine for making careless contact with an umpire.

St Kilda’s Jack Newnes can accept a $2000 sanction for tripping Collingwood youngster Flynn Appleby, Carlton rookie Lochie O’Brien has been offered a $2000 penalty for engaging in rough conduct against Melbourne forward Bayley Fritsch and Brisbane star Dayne Zorko ($2000) has also been fined for misconduct against Hawthorn defender James Sicily.
