The AFL have clarified the interpretation of the deliberate out of bounds rule, saying that it isn’t actually a deliberate out of bounds rule.

General manager of football operations Simon Lethlean said that the rule should be considered more like an “insufficient intent” rule than an actual deliberate out bounds call.

Lethlean’s comments came after the Laws of the Game Committee met today to discuss that rule and the law banning the third man up in ruck contests.

Lethlean also said that the AFL is happy with how the third man up rule is being interpreted, although it had “some teething problems”.

He said that “likes the way the rule is going”, but did  concede that there had been issues, however.

It seems likely that both rules will continue to be interpreted the same way they have been all season.
