24,500 turned up to the first game between Carlton and Collingwood at Princes Park, while 9,250 went to the Thebarton Oval for the Adelaide v GWS game and 10,100 made the trip to Whitten Oval for the Bulldogs v Fremantle games.

2,000 were locked out of the action at Princes Park on the first night.

The huge crowds — along with massive TV ratings — are a tick for women’s footy, showing that the competition has widespread appeal.

In the last game of the round, Brisbane upset Melbourne 4.1 (25) to 1.4 (10) in horrendous conditions at Casey Fields that forced a stoppage of play for lightning in the second term.
